I've been taking piano lessons with Jonathan for over a month now and I've been very pleased with his teaching. He's extremely knowledgeable and skilled, but what I appreciate most is his enthusiasm during lessons. He keeps the lessons fun, even when the subject matter is difficult. On top of this, he's just a cool, nice guy who I've enjoyed getting to know.

Working with Johnathan has been a joy.

It was my purpose setting out to study music in general, not just to study an instrument but to use the instrument as a means of approaching music in the abstract. I set out to study music’s mechanics and theoretical foundations.

Jonathan is very knowledgeable and very meticulous. He has a precise and analytical sort of mind, and very strong foundations in his classical training.

To have a wealth of knowledge in one's subject is not enough, one also has to know how to teach (which is a whole skillset of its own). It is clear Jonathan is an experienced teacher. I have never felt rushed with Jonathan, he is very generous with his time. He provides ample resources for study outside of our sessions, and is quick to respond to emails. He has lent me books, sent me links to videos, and provided me with plenty of homework.

Jonathan has also been very accommodating in allowing me to have some authority in planning lessons and exploring my own interests. Particularly I wanted to study modal music and found a folk song in the Locrian Mode. We took a break from the Suzuki work we had been doing and he helped me transcribe the song and practice.

I could not recommend Jonathan enough, I am switching focus from violin to piano for the time being and will be employing him as my piano tutor, and I’m very much considering taking spanish lessons under his tutelage as well.

Ian Really enjoyed his lesson. Jonathan is very knowledgeable and helped Ian with his basic skills and gave him great pointers. He also gave him an outline and daily practice requirements.

Piano is the basis of western music, the foundation for music theory, and a vital analogy for all other instruments. Every musician and singer benefits from studying piano, and every individual can find satisfaction in creating music from this beautiful instrument.

I emphasize physical relaxation technique, curiosity-driven exploration, and a comprehensive understanding of music through piano performance. It's ridiculously fun, and a challenge at every level. I specialize in ear training and songwriting/arranging, because that's the source of my own delight. Your enthusiasm is the fuel for progress, and I love finding ways to channel your interests into the love of piano.

My 3-camera technique allows you to see what's happening from a variety of angles, translating my actions over Zoom like you're in the room with me. Let's make time to play together.

About Isaac

CUSTOM-MADE FOR YOU Learning involves playfulness, curiosity, and personal connection. I've studied how people learn and how people play, along with 25 years of professional and performance experience, and I focus it entirely on you. Hi, There!
Thanks for viewing my profile! I have been studied and practiced piano for over 15 years and have a bachelor's degree in Music Composition. I started teaching both young beginners, 4-16, and adult beginners since 2011. I focus my teaching on leading the students to find out the type of player they want to be. Although different methods will be used depending on students' age and goals, a good grounding in skills and techniques is necessary.

Piano lessons will be unique with me because I am privy to all genres of music. From a students perspective, I want a teacher who is knowledgeable but who also makes learning fun and interesting. My approach will be to practice the technical things such as: notes, sight reading, key signatures, and chord progressions while saving time in our lesson to have fun and thinking beyond the "dry" technical lessons. Not only will I work to improve your music knowledge, I will work with you to develop creative skill and musical ideas. For those looking to go in another direction then classical training, my lessons will be geared toward chord recognition, music creation, and music theory. Do you know of songs you always wished you knew how to play? We will break them down and learn how to play them once we get down the basics. Music is something that is coded and once you learn the rules you will have the ability to create your own music!

Contrary to classical music, jazz generally requires an ensemble work ethic. Often, solo pianists miss out on the opportunity to collaborate with other musicians.
