I can teach you in any style of singing and all styles of music. My specialty is Classical Music, but a healthy foundation is a must for all music and for all singing. I will teach you how to warm up your voice professionally so that you will never hurt yourself. How to develop the power to be heard at the back of a large theater without blowing out the flame of a candle in front of you. I can teach you the art of circular breathing which is beneficial not only to players of wind instruments but also to singers as well. Control and awareness of your breathing, vocal chords and your muscles are vitally important for technique and the expression of colors in the sound your produce. This is wonderful to have ...

The actual student was Vitalii, our ministry assistant at our church; I am the oversight chair who selected Joseph.

We have noticed great improvement in Vitalii's reading and conversational English (Vitalii is from Ukraine). In the 8 months of lessons, Vitalii is more relaxed, more confident, and more spontaneous in his English. The match between Vatilii and Joseph is extraordinary.

I have had occasion to speak with Joseph who worked with me on developing a schedule and focusing on the areas of most need. Joseph is without a doubt, knowledgeable, insightful, and caring. I have no reservations in recommending him for any type of instruction. He is TOPS!

Joseph is a great instructor that really takes into account your individual needs. He is helping sculpt my best natural speaking voice for business, and my personal life. Great instructor and would recommend him to anyone looking to better themselves.

Joseph is an incredible teacher. He has the ability to connect with the student at the student's level. I have zero background in music and he is extremely diligent at teaching me at my level. He uses different tools and methods to make the information accessible. He's also extremely patient. He understands when I show up to class without having practiced: there is also never any judgment. Lovely lovely teacher.

I teach singing and have extensive curriculum and teaching materials. I primarily use Alfred Vocal Technique books, but also other supplemental books. During the first lesson, I determine the student's vocal range by having him/her sing up and down the scale. I teach vocal techniques, correct diaphragm breathing, correct singing stance, diction and vowel formation, emoting while singing, connecting to the song, memorization techniques, understanding music history, and much more. I have available to my students a vast array of vocal literature and materials from which they can choose.I have been singing since I was a preschooler and love to sing to touch people's hearts. I have a B.A. in Music Education with a vocal emphasis. I have been trained in the Alexander Technique, have had 7 semesters of private voice lessons at college level, and attended upper level vocal pedagogy classes. I love to teach singing to students and share the rich experiences and knowledge I have.

Indigo has really helped me get to know and understand the instrument more than ever before. Her focus is building a fluency on the guitar, instead of just memorizing a bulky vocabulary. In our classes she’s demystified music theory concepts that I was too intimidated to approach on my own, and let me hone in on technique with lots of personalized guidance and flexibility. No annoying pretension (though she would definitely be justified in it), just a genuine and supportive love for playing music. Working with Indigo is the most positive experience I’ve had with musical instruction so far!
Michael P.
I’ve looked at several different teaching methods for guitar and Indigo’s is by far the clearest and easiest to follow! Her approach is unique and effective. She is methodical, but flexible, encouraging me to incorporate the things I am practicing with the songs I am selecting helping me to learn more quickly. The videos she creates keep me “on track” between lessons, demonstrating the exercises taught. She has a good sense of humor and is really patient. Most of all I like her consistent desire to find ways to be most helpful as I fumble my way to guitar excellence! If you have researched guitar teachers but haven’t found a good fit, I highly recommend reaching out to Indigo!

Learn to Sing in Online Lessons

The voice is the only instrument that every person is born with, making it one of the most versatile instruments in the world while also being completely unique to each singer. Some of the earliest recorded vocal music was chanted by monks in the cathedrals of Europe, and many other types of ancient singing such as folk songs and drinking songs have been passed down from generation to generation.

Some of the most well-loved vocal pieces are in the classical opera style and are still learned and performed today despite being hundreds of years old. However, many of today’s vocal students are more interested in learning more modern music genres like pop, rock, RnB, and jazz, to name a few.

Why Take Singing Lessons Online?

There are so many great reasons to pursue online singing lessons at TakeLessons. If you’ve always wanted to know more about the art of singing, the history of the craft, and the different styles of singing available, a highly experienced singing teacher will be able to give you in-depth information on all of these distinct details and much more.

While you’re learning more about the history of singing and its effects on the history of music in general, you’ll also be receiving extremely useful singing tips in the process. Because your singing voice is something you’re born with, many people do some casual singing throughout their day-to-day life such as in the shower, in the car, or with their friends while listening to music. However, if you enjoy singing but have never taken a singing lesson, you may be singing improperly without realizing it!

Learn Singing Technique Online

Using proper technique is very important to make sure that you’re singing in a way that’s healthy for your throat, lungs, and muscles. From warming up your voice before singing to even standing with the correct posture, there are many crucial details of singing that aren’t common knowledge.

The muscles of the face, neck, and shoulders are used in very unique ways while singing. If you sing with too much tension in these areas, you could potentially injure yourself over time or develop unhealthy habits that affect the quality of your singing and even your speaking voice. Plus, there are several distinct breathing techniques that help trained singers to not only prevent injury, but to also accomplish impressive performances that wouldn’t have been possible without the proper physical support.

If you are familiar with some of the words in the vocal music vocabulary, you’re probably well aware of the concept of “warming up.” Warm-up exercises for singers are very similar to warm-up exercises for athletes; they help the singer to feel mentally and physically prepared for the singing they’re about to do. For most singers, this consists of a series of breathing exercises as well as singing in multiple distinct patterns that each focus on a specific facet of singing such as pitch, range, volume, or dynamics.

How Do Online Singing Lessons Work?

Seeking online vocal lessons is a great way to acquire tips for better singing and improve your vocal abilities. However, if you’ve never taken a singing lesson and especially if you’ve never taken one online, it may seem like new territory for you. If this is how you feel, just know that you’re not alone—plenty of people utilize the online lesson format for their first ventures into improving a skill.

The way that your online singing lessons are formatted and presented will greatly depend on your teacher. Different singing instructors prefer different vocal warmups that target specific skills, and some prefer to spend a majority of each lesson focusing on technique while some prefer to spend more time working on your performance of a specific song or songs. Plus, teachers with different backgrounds themselves, such as classical versus pop, will likely provide different tips for better singing based on their individual values.

Though different online singing teachers will provide individualized singing tips and structure their lessons differently, the main variable to keep in mind is what you want to get out of your lessons. Do you want to get better at singing a specific song? Do you want to widen your vocal range or improve your technique with useful singing tips? Are you looking for a combination of all of these things? Your preferences will make a huge impact on how your vocal teacher approaches your lessons and the specific things you work on during your lessons.

The Benefits of Online Voice Lessons

In-person voice lessons can help you to improve your confidence with singing while also teaching you important singing tips and tricks to employ vocal technique. However, as long as you have access to a device with a camera, microphone, and a good Internet connection, one-on-one online voice lessons at TakeLessons can provide you with the exact same benefits.

Many of the important aspects of singing and performing have to do with your posture, physicality, and body language. As long as your online voice teacher can see those things while also hearing you sing, you can reap all of the same benefits that a traditional voice student can. Even if you don’t have access to a camera, you can still receive extremely useful singing tips from a high-quality teacher that are tailored to your individual needs.

Another huge benefit to online lessons is the fact that you can attend your lessons from anywhere. When you factor in travel time, in-person lessons can take anywhere from 1 to 3 hours out of your day, depending on how long your lessons are and where your teacher lives in relation to you. With online singing lessons, you can receive helpful singing tips and improve your vocal abilities from the comfort of your home without having to worry about traffic or finding a place to park.

Finding the Right Online Voice Teacher for You

Finding a voice teacher online is much more complicated than just finding someone to give you some tips for better singing. The singing tips and information you can find for free online are very useful when you’re just starting out, but if you want to improve your voice in a major way, hiring an online singing teacher is the best decision you can make.

If you don’t know much about singing, it can be difficult to make real progress on your own. A teacher will be able to listen critically to your voice and provide individualized singing tips as well as applicable exercises you can incorporate into your practice in order to improve in the ways you want to. Plus, your online singing teacher may make suggestions of songs or genres to explore with your singing that you never would have thought of on your own, but end up really loving!

Finding the right voice teacher online can seem like a daunting task, especially since there are so many great options out there. On our site alone, you can find over 200 highly qualified and background-checked vocal teachers that specialize in a wide variety of styles and genres. That way you know that whichever teacher you choose, you’ll be receiving a high caliber of training with great attention to detail.

Things to Keep in Mind When Finding a Singing Teacher Online

While searching for an online voice teacher, it’s important to take important details like pricing and availability into account. Make sure to evaluate your own schedule and figure out when your optimal weekly lesson time would be before searching for a teacher. Also, determine how much you are willing to spend each week and factor in that choice when making your search.

Additionally, most online voice teachers will offer multiple choices in terms of how long you’d like your lessons to be. Typically, teachers will offer 30-minute, 45-minute, and 1 hour time slots to potential students depending on the student’s preference. Most younger students as well as those that are just starting out will opt for a shorter lesson time in order to ease themselves into the practice. As you get more advanced, you may want to extend your lesson time in order to work more in depth on your material.

In order to make a good choice for your needs, you may also want to browse the reviews and ratings left for our teachers by their previous and current students. The best way to get a well-rounded view of a teacher’s abilities is by reading what their students have to say about them and the specific singing tips and tricks that they’ve gained from their lessons. Who knows, you may even get some tips for better singing just by reading student reviews!

"Dan is an incredible voice teacher! He focuses not just on the mechanics but also on how to perform with genuine, authentic emotion - which is what really sets him apart. I've taken voice lessons in the past, but my teacher was all about Broadway singing, and we seldom talked about how to infuse the music with the emotions required to truly move people and express yourself. Dan doesn't just know what he's doing from a music theory/mechanical perspective, he knows what he's doing from a human perspective. I look forward to every lesson and I cannot recommend him enough if you're looking for a voice teacher."

6 Tips for Singing and Playing the Piano at the Same Time
