The bass guitar doesn't get a lot of love. That's unfortunate, because playing bass is an incredible feeling. It's a foundational instrument and bringing that sense of stability to a song can make it go from sounding okay to sounding like real music you hear on the radio.

My bass students are taught the foundational skills and techniques, but also the rhythm and feel of playing bass. An instrument with a fairly low barrier to entry, bass is one of the best ways to get playing quickly. Will you pick up the bass today?

I’ve been taking lessons from Kevin for about 2 months. Before that I’d been kind of aimlessly playing around with guitar. I was playing by myself for about 20 years and basically had no timing and rhythm. I’m not a funk master yet but Kevin has given me tools that have greatly improved my timing and for the first time actually believing that I’m going to do this. Thanks

I started taking lessons with Kevin about a month ago I took lessons when I was a kid, and remember some things, but my hands do not yet so what my head is telling them. Kevin has been great, adjusting to what I already know and adding a lot of music theory, which I never had learned before. Highly recommend Kevin.
Jo
I started learning Ukulele with Kevin and then picked up Guitar lately, Kevin has a systematic way of teaching, instead of covering each and every chords, he summarizes them by different shapes, and also their variations, so you can memorize the basics and find their "relative" chords easier. He also taught music theories, how each chord is formed, and if you want to play a specific song, he's also glad to help on finding the exact chord and transfer them into different notes that suits you. Definitely have your notebook ready since there's a lot to learn. The harder thing for myself is with the online class, it's not as efficient as a face-to-face one, I also tend to be less motivated to practise but you ought to just find your own motivation!

My goal as a teacher is to give you the facility to express yourself through music. The key parts to developing this facility are:

1. theory -- notice i say theory, not rules. learning music theory is not about learning rigid rules that will stifle your creativity. when you learn theory, you learn to identify patterns and give them names so you can remember and reuse them. the more you know your theory, the more ways you know to express your ideas
2. technique -- the last thing you want is for your technique to hinder your ability to express your idea. Having good technique lets your ideas flow naturally. and really, why would you not want to be the best you can be?

When you take lessons with me, you get out of it what you put in. Your job as student is to be honest with what you expect to achieve and my job as teacher is to give you the tools to achieve it

About David

"Greg has the ability to understand and know where any musician is at in their quest for knowledge about how to play their instruments with more confidence. He listens and is very intent on the students needs and not trying to overwhelm them with too much. Greg has helped me with a better understanding of how to play my bass better along with encouraging me to step out a little more to learn the whys and how comes we all wonder about music at times. He also enjoys learning from our own joirneys in music. I would recommend Greg to anyone, every time it is worth it. I have found new levels of playing the bass that i did not know that existed in me. He is just a great all around Christian man who loves to serve the Lord with those who God has put in his path."

"Right Then!

I took bass lessons with Jeff in my formative years as a musician (as did many of my friends). He is the perfect teacher: Highly skilled, informative, patient, friendly, challenging and a lot of fun!

Jeff was more than willing to teach me things I wanted to know but more importantly, he set me straight on developing good technique, note and chord chart reading, understanding theory, ear training and improvising. He also turned me on to tons of great life changing music that was not yet on my young radar! He is a walking encyclopedia of musical knowledge.

Lastly, he has remained a friend throughout my whole life. I've even had the honor of playing many gigs with him, something I would have never imagined as a young beginner!

From beginners to advanced students, Jeff is your man.

Thank you for everything, Master Stetson!"

Learn Bass Guitar

Have you ever wanted to learn to play bass guitar? If you’ve envisioned yourself plucking and slapping away at the bass, or being the heartbeat of an ensemble, you’re not alone. The versatility of the bass guitar has made it popular among many aspiring musicians who enjoy genres such as rock, metal, funk, jazz, blues and experimental.

The first electric bass guitar was created by Seattle inventor and musician Paul Tutamarc in the 1930s. However, it was George Fullerton and Leo Fender who ultimately developed the first electric bass to be mass-produced. This influenced many famous guitarists such as Carol Kaye and Paul McCartney to learn bass guitar.

These percussion instruments come in a variety of styles and designs, and Fender is still the most famous name in bass circle

...

s today. The most popular models are electric basses with four strings, but there are also five and six string bass guitars.

Reasons to Take Bass Guitar Lessons Near You

There are many reasons you might be looking for bass lessons near you. Regardless of age, music stimulates the mind and body. While many people learn to play bass guitar just to jam out with friends, some students have higher aspirations. Want to be under the bright lights on stage before a live audience?

The sky is the limit for those who put in the time and dedication to become a professional bassist. Being a serious musician requires more than just the ability to play songs though, and that’s where more advanced bass guitar lessons near you come into play. Let’s take a look at some more of the benefits of learning this versatile instrument in detail, below.

The Benefits of Bass Lessons for Kids

Because it improves hand-eye coordination, motor skills, and memory, kids who play an instrument like the bass typically perform better in school. They also tend to interact better with others in social situations.

Because the bass guitar has a longer neck and is much heavier than an acoustic guitar, it can be quite cumbersome for small children. With that in mind, most instructors recommend beginning bass lessons around age eight or nine.

The Benefits of Bass Lessons for Adults

Getting involved in the music scene is a great way to make new friends and keep yourself mentally sharp. Want to have greater dexterity, and enjoy better focus overall? Learning to play an instrument like the electric bass guitar has been shown to help individuals achieve all of these goals.

How You’ll Learn to Play Bass Guitar

Whether you’re looking for beginner, intermediate, or advanced bass lessons near you, there are no limits to what some of our highly skilled instructors can help you learn. Even if you can already play by ear and have no formal training, it’s essential to understand the foundations of bass lines, melody, rhythm, technique, and harmony to truly master the instrument.

Sample Curriculum in Bass Lessons for Beginners

Lessons at this level are designed to give new players a solid footing and get comfortable with the instrument. Students will begin with the basic fundamentals that will help them develop good playing habits. Topics that are often covered in bass lessons for beginners include:

  • Memorizing fretboard notes
  • Introduction to harmony, keys, chords and scale patterns
  • Diatonic chord introduction
  • Diminished chord patterns
  • How to read music

Sample Curriculum for Intermediate Bass Guitar Lessons

After mastering the basics, it’s time to learn a few more challenging bass skills. Most students really begin making noticeable progress and gaining confidence during this stage. Some key skills that are commonly taught include:

  • Slap bass
  • Improving solo speed
  • Double stops
  • Melodic sequences
  • Picking and fretting techniques
  • Ghost notes

Sample Curriculum for Advanced Bass Guitar Lessons

At this stage, you’ll have the ability to perform impromptu, solo, or with a group. Once students arrive at this level, many bass guitar instructors include the following techniques in their lesson plans:

  • Super bass solos
  • Triplet slap bass
  • Mastering the entire fretboard
  • Style and groove breakdowns
