Zach is an excellent teacher! He's warm and very engaging. My 10-year-old son and I take lessons with Zach, and he tailors our lessons for each level and interest. I have taken French in the past, while my son is a new learner.) My son has recently taken up soccer, and Zach created lessons around this new interest. I'm also amazed at how quickly my son's pronunciation has improved. Zach is dependable and just a ton of fun! We highly recommend him.

Unfortunately I was dismissed by Zach. We were in the process of moving my 96 year old mother in law to assisted living and I had to reschedule, or wanted to, a couple of lessons. Of course, I had already purchased the requested study guides/workbooks. While I am not a Rhodes Scholar I did graduate from Miss Porter's School and earned a Masters at Mercer University. I am not scared to study. I thought it was handled quite poorly.

Bonjour! I was born and raised in France. Several of my students have learnt and practiced French with me for 9+ years. I focus on your very needs, either using your methodology, or any other. I can recommend at least one 45 to 60-minute lesson per week; or two 30-minute lessons per week. I suggest websites and books. I provide complementary support to Rosetta Stone and various foreign language learning apps such as Babbel or Duolingo.
Above and beyond the regular class interactions, if you wish, I am available for texting to provide even more conversational French opportunities. Just like in the real world. That is of course free. The idea is to make you comfortable with simple expressions. Students love that!

About Isabelle

I am a native French speaker born in France; I have lived in the USA since 2000 and speak English fluently. I teach both French and English as a Second Language (ESL). I am used to teaching/ coaching/ interacting with students of all ages (12-80+) and with professionals in a corporate environment.

Learn Basic French Words with Online Lessons

Learning a new language is a great way to build a useful skill and expand your mind in a unique way. Plus, it can act as a gateway to a completely different culture that you never would have been able to experience in such an authentic way. Whether you’re a world traveler or simply want to expand your cultural awareness and abilities, learning a new language is a wise choice, and learning French is one of the most important languages you can learn.

The French language is much more widespread than most people think. Though it’s the primary language spoken in France, it’s also commonly found in several areas of Canada and Africa as well as other European countries. French is extremely significant on the world stage, and being able to speak the language can grant you access to multiple countries and regions as well as a wide variety of classic art, music, and philosophy.

In some cases, people take up a new language in order to converse more easily with the people in their neighborhood or city. Though the popularity of different languages depends on where you live, there are many regions throughout the world where learning French could help you to establish a better connection with your neighbors and immerse yourself in local culture.

Why You Should Learn Common French Words Online

Maybe you have a trip to Europe currently planned, or you’d like to plan one in the future. Either way, getting started on learning French now will set you up for success during your travels. When you arrive in a French-speaking country or region with a good understanding of basic French words, phrases, and idioms, you’ll have a much easier time using public transit, asking for advice from locals, and connecting to the region’s through popular songs, advertisements, and reading materials.

If you’re interested in the art and writings of the Renaissance, learning French can help to directly connect you to a great deal of Renaissance works. The word Renaissance itself is a French word, and this era in history brought about nearly countless works of art and literature as well as the famous Louvre Museum. With a better understanding of the language, you’ll be able to experience these works as they were intended, from the artist’s own words as opposed to a translation that may or may not be completely accurate.

Tips for Learning Basic French Words

Today, there are more valuable resources available than ever for new French students. With just a few clicks, anyone who wants to learn some common French words, well-known phrases, or even how to say different colors in French can do so online at any time. However, there are a few other ways that you can supplement your French instruction.

One of the best ways to truly create a connection with the French language as you’re learning it is to listen to native speakers in different settings. As you’re learning basic French words, take a break by putting on a performance by Edith Piaf or Yves Montand, two of the most famous French singers. Not only will you be immersing yourself deeper into French culture, you’ll be able to sense the different emotions that French words can convey within different lyrical contexts.

You can stimulate a different part of your brain by reading French literature to test your knowledge of common French words. If you’re a beginner, you may want to start out with children’s books so you’re more likely to be able to understand. However, as you progress with your French instruction, you should take on more difficult passages of books and articles to see how well you can comprehend what’s written.

If you can, another effective way to improve your French knowledge and test how well you know basic French words is to have a conversation with a French speaker. In this setting, you can take turns leading the conversation to test your comprehension skills as well as your ability to speak fluently. Plus, conversing with a native speaker will allow you to compare your accent and pronunciation with someone who has more experience.

How Online French Lessons Can Benefit You

As you can see, there are so many useful resources out there for people who want to lean common French words and improve their understanding of the language. You can make great strides in your French language development just by studying free information online. However, every French student that wants to become fluent should consider taking individualized French lessons online with TakeLessons.

When you’re working on a skill on your own, it can be easy to prioritize other things during your busy day-to-day life and neglect to practice your skill as regularly as you should. Having a French teacher that you meet with each week for the sheer purpose of learning French will help to keep you accountable for your practice sessions, as it’s easier to make excuses to yourself than it is to a teacher.

When learning a new skill, most students go through an extremely productive early period where their level of ability rises quickly. During this period, motivation is usually high and practicing the skill doesn’t seem like a chore, as the student is seeing noticeable improvements in real time. However, as your skill level rises, so will the difficulty of the content you’re learning, which can lead to burnout and even quitting for many students learning on their own.

When you have a high-quality teacher guiding you through the process of learning French from day one, your instruction will progress at a steady rate. This way, you won’t experience such a dramatic shift from your practicing feeling easy to your practicing feeling impossible. Your teacher will make sure that your lessons are difficult enough to make you feel challenged, but easy enough to be mastered within your lesson time.

Additionally, one of the most obvious benefits of working with a French teacher online is the fact that your teacher simply knows much more about basic French words, phrases, and grammar than you do. Working with a professional will take the pressure off of you to know which common French words to start with and how quickly you should progress.

Online vs. In-Person French Lessons: Which is Best?

Unfortunately, many potential French students decide not to take up the language due to the fact that their schedule is simply too busy to fit in a weekly lesson. Some may be able to access a French teacher within a short drive or bus ride, making it a reasonable addition to your weekly routine. However, if you live in a rural area or don’t have easy access to a car or public transport, attending a weekly French lesson becomes much more of a hassle.

One of the factors that makes individualized French lessons so effective is the human connection that comes along with it. When you create a relationship with your teacher and become comfortable around them, it becomes easier and easier to absorb new information during your lessons and put it into practice. Luckily, this aspect of French lessons is accessible in both the in-person and online format.

To see success in your online French lessons, all you need is a smartphone, tablet, or computer with reliable Internet access, a camera, and a microphone. All of these devices come with a camera and microphone built in, so you won’t have to worry about purchasing extra gear for your online lessons. As long as your French instructor can demonstrate basic French words, numbers, and phrases for you in real time and see and hear you repeat their teachings back, you’ll be able to reap all the same benefits of in-person lessons.

Finding the Perfect French Teacher Online

While you’re perusing our many highly rated, highly qualified French teachers on TakeLessons, you may find yourself overwhelmed by the sheer number of choices. How can you determine which teacher on our site is right for you? The best way to start is to narrow down your search by using our customizable search function.

This function allows you to enter certain information that will automatically eliminate any teachers that don’t fit your specifications. Are you only available for lessons on a certain day of the week? Do you have a specific budget for lessons? Do you prefer one gender of teacher over the other? Once you’ve answered these simple questions, you’ll have a significantly smaller pool of teachers to choose from that meet your exact needs.

You can get a sense of each teacher’s personality and teaching style by reading their bio on their personalized profile. This way, you can learn about their experience level, whether or not they’re a native speaker themselves, and what their teaching style is like from their own point of view. Still unsure? You can send any teacher on our site a personalized message before booking a lesson to ask any remaining questions you might have.
