Sharing the words and wisdom of Irving Crane...

I have played billiards and devised inventions as well as new games over the many years. My mentor in the game and the art of pocket billiards was Irving Crane. Teaching the finer principles of the game and the psychology of performance at the billiard table is a legacy I would like to pass on in my life. So, here I am.

If you would like to learn how not to stress out over the last ball, how to breath properly, align your shot, aim, follow through and visualize the entirety of the shot- that is a good foundation. How to plan and treat the game as a chess board, think through many shots in advance and choose the right path as it changes... these are good building blocks. if you would like your blood pressure to go down while your opponent's goes up, its a good topper.

Most importantly, billiards is a game of the mind first and foremost. We play against ourselves before we play the opponent. Knowing your own process of ...

Joseph has a wealth of knowledge about speaking, listening, vocals, etc.

He created a welcoming environment in our online lessons that made it easy to be vulnerable and get right to working on new skills.

I highly recommend for others looking to better understand their voice and communication style, and learn to hone them.

Joseph put us at ease immediately. Our first lesson included valuable information on how to warm up our voices, increase our range and protect our voices. We look forward to our next lesson.

I have been studying piano with Joseph for nearly five years. In that time, I’ve learned more about the piano and musical interpretation than I ever thought possible.

Joseph’s technical ‘short cuts’ are amazing! He illustrates ways for your hands and your mind to work that are tailor made for you. Learning from him is so fun it seems almost effortless.

The way Joseph teaches allows you to develop at your own pace. The atmosphere is always relaxed yet everything moves along quickly.

At the open classes I attend, his other students are progressing very rapidly too. After each class, we share our impressions. The mood is elated because it feels like we stepped back in time and into history.

Joseph often quotes inspired wisdom of his historic teachers in our lessons. He is a great inspiration on his own with great musical insights.

I’m playing Beethoven and Chopin works I never thought I could approach at this stage of study, with great depth of understanding. I now play with greater passion and skill, get compliments from everyone I play for, and no longer worry about playing in public.

I look forward to each and every lesson with Joseph. His encouragement and support makes learning so rewarding! Anyone who finds this musical treasure is a lucky person and I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Kim worked with my 13-year-old daughter and is a pro, but keeps it fun too. He's relatable and made the foundation stuff important while making her feel good about learning the basics. I would recommend him all day long!

Kim was awesome!! Very patient and entertaining - while still getting the job done! He's got a great perspective on the importance of the basics how that foundation - even simple tweaks - will make a difference that grows as my skills do. "Don't rehearse the curse" - play consciously, so every shot is on purpose...with the correct mechanics. GREAT instructor!!!

Kim is a real professional, very knowledgeable and patient. His approach to teaching the game is excellent...

"When things click between instructor and student learning becomes a lot easier. I went into my first lesson with an open mind, and I was not disappointed. What JP explained to me had as much to do with his choice of words as it did with the credibility of his statements. We covered a lot of basics which I already knew, but how he explained them was in terms that I hadn't thought about. This prompted me to slow down and put more effort/concentration into each shot."

"Taking class with David was a pleasant and fulfilling experience. Above being a highly skilled, passionate pool player, David was attentive, detail oriented, and patient.

As I being a total beginner, David went out of his way to find some materials for me to study before the class. During the class, David demonstrated postures, explained the thinking behind every shot, answered my tons of questions, and showed me couple techniques that I can drill on my own.

David not only provided me a solid introduction to pool, more importantly he showed me the depth of this sport. I would highly recommend taking pool class with David, as I learned a lot being a beginner, I’m sure one at any level will benefit from David’s exceptional technique and insight."

Private Billiards Lessons Near You

If you’ve ever been to a pool hall, then you’re probably somewhat familiar with billiards. Billiards, also known as cue sports, involve using a cue (pool stick) to strike billiard balls around a cloth-covered table with bumpers, called a billiard table. Billiard tables and games sometimes have pockets and sometimes do not.

There are a variety of billiard games with various sets of rules and objectives, which are designed for both types of tables (with and without pockets). Carom billiards refers to games without pockets, and the term pool refers to billiards games with pockets. One of the most popular pool games played in pool halls on pocketed tables is 8-ball.

Why Learn to Play Pool?

There are so many reasons why it’s a good idea to learn how to play pool. For starters, you might not think of billiards as an incredibly active, physical sport, but it does do some good for your body's physical health. You'll burn calories while moving around the table. Billiard players also need strong balance and flexibility, both of which strengthen core muscle groups, tone other muscle groups, and lead to better physical fitness.

Billiards is also a game of strategy, which means it provides a good mental workout for the brain. Billiard games require geometry and physics. While you plan moves, visualize the angles of bank shots, and mentally work out the physics of speed, momentum, and direction, your brain will grow increasingly sharp. Playing a round of billiards is the ultimate brain teaser!

Yes, playing pool is good for your mind and body. But above all, playing billiards is just plain fun! However, it’s even more fun when you know the rules of the game and how to make the best moves. When you sign up for pool lessons, your billiards teacher will teach you all the secrets to winning this popular game. Whether you need help fine-tuning your aim or practicing your breaks, your teacher will be there every step of the way.
